Battle Royale (2000)

Yet another movie from Asia, but so far, they didn’t let me down whenever and whichever movie I choose to watch. Me personally find Asian stories to be quite original, and unique. Battle Royale (2000) is a movie I watched long ago, and for me it was quite thrilling and exciting to watch. It is a drama, sci-fi, thriller with some explicit scenes.

Forty-two students, three days, one deserted Island: welcome to Battle Royale. A group of ninth-grade students from a Japanese high school have been forced to compete in a Battle Royale. The government adopts legislation as a measure, since the behavior of the youngsters is going towards disrespect, and is getting out of control. The students are each given a bag with a randomly selected weapon and a few rations of food and water and sent off to kill each other in a no-holds-barred (with a few minor rules) game to the death, which means that the students have three days to kill each other until one survives — or they all die.

Starring: Tatsuya Fujiwara, Aki Maeda, Tarô Yamamoto
Directed by: Kinji Fukasaku

This movie had 8 nominations and won 7 awards. Among the awards were:
Blue Ribbon Award for Best Film to Kinji Fukasaku and Best New Actor to Tatsuya Fujiwara, at Blue Ribbon Awards in 2001;
Popularity Award for Most Popular Film, at Awards of the Japanese Academy in 2001;
Award of the Japanese Academy for Best Editing to Hirohide Abe, at Awards of the Japanese Academy in 2001;
